Head date code alteration?
I am not looking to slam this seller, but does it look like the date codes on the heads in the Ebay auction linked below look like they have been altered from "5" to "3" to anyone else:

The seller has provided very nice photos (even though they are upside down!) and they just do not look right to me.
Anyone else?

Only way to be remotely certain is to find other heads with same casting number cast on these dates in 63 and 65. Even then it could be a crapshoot as there could be numerous foundry patterns being used to cast them.

I'm curious why you care about the date codes? They are not judged by NCRS or Bloomington. If you wanted to fake something, the part numbers would be the ones you would alter. It would make them worth more money.

I have 4- 1963 461 X heads. Those are ground out 5's.
You should notice the raised letter X on the bottom side of the 461 X head.
I am fairly certain that all 62-63 461X heads are 1.94s. The ones pictured appear to have intake and exhaust valves that are almost touching, = 2.02.
The next series of 461 heads beginning in 1964 came in 1.94 and 2.02 versions in Hi HP applications 350, 365 and 375hp.
If you are purchasing a used set you are generally safer to purchase a set of 1.94's and have them machined yourself, IMO.
