Another T5 question
I'am a little confused though. I've seen threads on conversion to a T5 for a C1, Will the t5 ford or GM fit in a C2 ? Is the T5 the only 5 spd that will fit, is there other 5 spd transmissions from GM or Ford ?
I'am worried about 400 HP holding on a T5, GM didn't put it behind a 350 for a reason. Will a C4 fit ? What a about a T56 ?

Once you transplant it into something with more power, it get's a little iffy. The T5 was rated at 250ft/lbs and 300ft/lbs for the T5WC (world class). Their biggest problem was the 3/4 syncro. The T5's use a paperbased blocking ring on the syncro assembly and they don't stand up to a lot of abuse. Power shifting is the biggest killer of the T5. I have a lot of friends who run T5's in their mustangs and some of them are pushing 450+hp with them. They know not to do a lot of power shifting and so far, they are alright.
As far as fitting one into a C1 platform, I don't have any experience to offer. I know several members here have transplanted them into C2/C3 platforms with great success. Silverslashstreak is one who did a pretty good job at documenting his conversion, do a search on him and you should find it.
The Ford version T5 has a longer input shaft(than the GM version) and the wrong bolt pattern for the bell housing. Since you'll need an adapter plate to make it work, the adapter plate kills 2 birds at the same time. It converts the bolt pattern to work with a GM bell, and if you make it 3/4" thick, it'll make up the difference in the length of the input shaft too.
The GM version T5 was canted 6* to the drivers side(I think it was 6*, might have been 17*, I can't remember..), so you'll have to overcome that in order to get the shifter to come up straight as opposed to leaning to the drivers side.
A T56 will fit into the C3 platform without cutting the tunnel if you use the right T56 model (011, 016, 018). The cross member will have to be modified for sure and the driveshaft shortened and a 26 spline clutch but that's about it as far as major work required.
As mentioned, the TKO is a great transmission and we have a kit to put it into a C1/C2/C3 and C4 platform and they don't require any cutting. The C1 platform does require you to trim the ashtray pocket by 1/4" (make it thinner) in order to fit a TKO into the tunnel.
Let me know if you have more questions.

Is the ford t5 better than the GM, with regards to holding more horses ? Or is the T56 ?. Was the t5 produce in one plant or does Gm and Ford have their own plants? It sounds like and from what i've been reading the ford t5 would be better to use with the adapter plate, because if i use the GM i would have to deal with the 17 degress.
