hey guys im new here and i dont have a vette, i have a 1987 monte carlo ss, but im looking for some info, i have a 1965 small journal 327 and its .30 with GM forged domed pistons. the piston numbers are 3850139, someone told me they are correct pistons for a vette motor. the only info i could find on them is that they make 11:1 compression with 64cc heads, my question is will vortec heads work with these pistons or will the heart shaped chamber get hit by the dome? im pretty sure my motor has the stock deck. thanks for the help guys
i already decoded the block, its a 325hp small journal 327 out of an impala i believe, but someone told me the pistons are the same ones they used in the vette 327's, im sure you guys have heard about how vortec heads are a great bang for the buck, well i can get a set cheap but im not sure if they are going to fit with the domed pistons so i figured if they really are domed pistons for a vette, then one of you guys have probably used the vortec heads with these pistons if its possible, it not i was hopeing someone could chime in so i dont end up buying them and having the dome hit the head chambers
i'm going make a WAG and say that conventional domed pistons and vortec heads will not be happy together. while the pistons may or may not hit the head, the dome piston configuration will not be ideal for the shape of the vortec combustion chamber.
