The Build date is Aug, is the eng date the same as the build date?
Anyone know the correct dates for these parts drop me a line I bought the Black Book but that has general informatiom. Mrkim422@aol.com. Thanks KGB

the engine build date is typically a couple of weeks behind the build date. NCRS allows up to 6 mouths

62 Vette VIN 00488 was built approximately Sept. 3, 1961.
The engine date of 1-H-11 you gave, I assume is the casting date for the block, not the manufacture date. The casting date is cast into the back of the block, on the right side, above the bellhousing attaching point. 1-H-11 as a casting date is August 11, 1961 ("H" being August). The engine should have a build date stamped into the machined pad on the right front of the block, along with a derivative of your VIN. Generally, the assembly date will be 1 to 3 days after the casting date.
The engine could never have the same build date as the car. Small blocks were cast and assembled in Flint MI, and then shipped to St. Louis to be installed in cars.

I have a 62 with VIN #1243. My block casting date is Sept. 28 with an Oct 4th engine assembly date and the car has an approximate Oct. 11th build date. I forget my tranny date but it has the VIN # derivitive on it as well.
