I intend to pull my dash for gauge cluster restoration, new pads, and to see what's behind there. I've read all the threads (cluster removal, dashpads, steering column, and removing as a whole). The question is the trim piece on the top of the dash. Is it simply removed by taking off the chrome pillar pieces and then taking out the screws, or are there any clips or bedding compound behind there too? I just dont want to damage the trim piece. Thanks!

No clips or sealing compound there. Oval head Phillips screws only. That is not to say that Bubba didn't do something while you were not around.
I will check it out. I also will look closely at the harness and the birdcage. What I can see laying on the floor looks good. I'm sure I'll find many "while your'e at it" jobs. Thanks for the input.
