I've taken the battey out of my '64 and want to hookup my battery tender plus since I won't be driving it for a few more months. Can I just attach the (-) black terminal to the (-) post on the battery and the (+) red terminal to the (+) side of the battery. I had read somewhere about using a 24" terminal hookup extension cable on the
(-) negative side of the battery to hook up the (-) battery tender terminal to. Is that necessary or can I just attach them directly to each battery post?

Your fine. that 24 inch terminal hookup is for connecting permanently to the battery such that you can just plug the tender in easily. For example, I attached the 24" leads to my motorcycle and the lead comes out in some accesible place and I just connect to that rather than having to remove the seat to use the clips on the battery posts.

Exactly.....I have the terminal hookups on my boat, jet ski and vette. Not necessary for a battery sitting by itself....in storage.

nahhh.... I'm too lazy to make a hook-up. I just looked at the schematic and said... hmmm.... plugging the tender into the cig lighter should work. ...and it does.

Yep, that is a good one even though I never tried it. To the op, if you search battery tender under the C6 section or C6 Z06 part of the forum you will find a host of info due to battery draw issues. Advice given is dead on but you might want to look when you re-install the battery to add some pigtails so you do not have to take it out. Adds some convenience. What I found that works just fine is upon having a fully charged battery just dis-connect for the winter months and then connect back in the spring. Some add a dis-connect which are quite inexpensive.

well what i really meant is you're smarter than us because you live in Paradise and you can drive your car year round....
Heheh that too. Gotta be extra careful of car tho. Rust from the salt air is a killer if you don't keep the car clean and indoors.
yes those gentle onshore breezes gotta be a killer! ... i wonder if one of those electroysis units would be good to help retard that problem? I remember that my uncles cars used to rust from the top down, he lived right next to the Ocean in Hollywood Fla

I know the battery tender has a inline fuse. But it mite be a good time to put a inline fuse on the cig lighter too
