About 20 years ago I painted a 77' with some Glasurit paint which was an Arcrylic Urethane. It was apparently used on high end cars in Europe to battle the acid rain. Pretty nice stuff however it was expensive. I believe at that time it was about $500 per gallon.
the most expensive of course, a no bs shop around here says "we are a ppg shop" end of story for them. I guess that would be speaking for shops that have to provide a warranty. So that says something, you could try the paint section.
Just not used by shops much because its so expensive they aren't able to be price competitive. Whereas PPG is more than good enough and is still affordable.
What about House of Kolor, who made enamel pearls, candies, etc.? Are they still in business? I remember seeing lots of gorgeous home-painted cars and motorcycles at shows and in magazines over the years that named this do-it-yourselfer-friendly firm as their paint supplier.
PPG, DuPont, BASF, R-M, Glasurit are all good but you have to know what your wanting cause they also make materials that are cheaper in quality and price.
Some colors may be a better match than others, so do some color matching and look into high solids colors and clears. I used PPG Global color and 2002 clear.
