Default Mid year tire width

My 66 has slight fender flares on fron and rear, tires are 215 70 15. I want to put a wider tire on the rear only, without extending past the fender. My question is will I have to be concerned about the tire hitting the trailing arm or will I be okay being that the car has flares. Thanks in advance...

Depends on the size of the flares, rim width and backspacing. I ran 255/60 15 on stock C3 ralleys, 15X8 4" bs, on the 65 front and back. Stock suspension. I too have small flares. Here's a pic with the 15s. I running 17s now.

Hey Sky,

Where in Md are you.

I'm from Fredericksburg, Va, about 50 miles south of the 14th street bridge. My buddy is doing a '65 coupe in F'burg, and I run up there every so often to give him a hand.

If you're somewhat close, maybe we can hookup. I'd like to check out your '65.

After asking the same question about my C2 non-flared fenders. The 215/70-15 on 6 inch rallies was the widest I could go with assurances of no conflicts. With flares, I am sure you could jump up a notch or two. Keep an eye on rear spring to wheel clearance.

Two things you need to consider are not only tire size but wheel size and back spacing. I have a 65 coupe with stock TA. I have 225/50X17 tires on 17X8" wheels with 4 1/2" Backspacing. I have clearance but it's close. You need to consider the width of the tire sidewall and wheel size/back spacing. All comes into play.
