I just had some body work done on the back of my 65. My right signal now doesn't flash and the brake lights on the left don't work when the left signals is on. When the left signal is on both left lights flash. I straining my memory trying to remember what the proper operation?lighting of tail/brake/signals are on a C2. Are 2 lights supposed to flash for signal? How should signals flash when brakes are applied?
On a car with four red lamps all four lamps should light when the brakes are applied without a turn signal in operation.
When a turn signal is in operation you will have two lamps flashing to indicate the turn and the other side will have two steady bright lamps when the brakes are applied. If all four were being held on the bright filament when the brakes were applied with the turn signal in operation you wouldn't get a turn signal indication. You would just have four bright lamps and the person behind you would not get an indication that you were going to turn.
If you lived in my state it wouldn't matter because hardly anyone has the common courtesy to use a turn signal anyway.
With body work having been done, just go and check everything at the back of the car, including each ground wire attaching point and make sure the bulbs are correct. If you don't want to, or can't do it, demand the body shop correct what is wrong. Dennis
Check the ground wires, specifically in the 4 light set up you have, there is 1 ground wire for each lamp that is attached under one of the light retaining speed nuts at each position. If the lights were removed when you had the work done, I would start there. Also, check the plug pig tails to see if they are plugged in and correctly seated. If they were unplugged and the bulbs were left in place, they may not be making good contact. You can verify by removing the lens and bulb and trying to seat the pigtail first then put the bulb back in. I have seen this happen before even with a new harness, give it a try. Pilot Dan
Thanks for all the replies. The old bulb on was fogged up so so I replaced it first. It was very hard to get out and the new one didn't fit well either As I figured out later the light socket/ bezel assembly was defective. It came with a bulb already installed in it but the socket was rotated almost 180 degrees (though it didn't know that at first). When I was fiddling with it it must have shorted the socket and blew the low filament tail light fuse. So I replaced the fuse and after wiggling the bulb I got it to light up but the filaments were reversed. So with just the tail lights on it was on the high (bright) filament. I after inspecting the socket I then realized it was assembled improperly. We changed the socket and everything works normally again. Another junky repro part!
