I'm looking for a date correct block for my car 63 coupe how far out can you have a cast date on the rear of motor to pass judging don't care about front pad. I'v been told 4 months is ok and not ok I'v been told 6 weeks only also 6 months can you guys help thanks.
I'm trying to do the same thing ( build a date correct engine) for my 59, built March 26. I'm trying to keep all parts in the Jan, Feb, early March range. From what I've read here and on the NCRS web site, 6 months is "allowed", but most vette guys know that outside of 6 to 8 weeks, the engine was probably put together way after the car was built.
One other thing, if you are putting the engine together, you are going to end up with extra parts. What will happen is you'll find a "reasonably correct dated" part, buy it, then find the same part with a "better reasonably correct date".
My advice would be to start with a block as close to your date as possible, but not too close (don't want a block cast on Feb 1), then get the heads, again both heads should be close in date to each other, then close to the car date. Once you've got these items, then you'll know that you can continue, and what time frame you will be working with
Steve i have a 58 that i show it was my first car if i ever lean how to post pictures i would did you find a block i have several engines i bought years ago short blocks i have several from 57 to 61 i think I know i have a 59 t-10 trans.
Because we don't want to take a chance the judges will know the engine is a replacement and the stamping will all be for nothing. When I have the shiney paper awards ... it is good to be the king !

We? Who is 'we'?
This is why I asked the OP the question. Asking very specific NCRS judging questions here runs the risk of getting weird and misleading answers.

I have a block dated C109 (Nothing on the pad) and two heads L268 and A269, plus various other parts. The one head, so far is the only part pre 1959, but it and the other head are the correct heads and came as a "matching" pair so I bought them. Don't know what the T-10 is, it's been in the car since the sixties so I'm assuming, right now, it's correct. I'll worry about that after the engine is done.
Prior knowledge is not permitted as a factor in NCRS Flight Judging - the car, as presented, speaks for itself.
Would that be part of " don't ask, don't tell ? " Judging must be close to government work. Don't need the truth.. just a reasonable facsimile is close enough.
I hope the shiney piece of paper is worth all the deceit ........ oh I forgot were doing this just to restore the car properly. I would love to sit in on a jury for a numbers matching fraud case.

I know of several prominent NCRS members who act as expert witnesses during court hearings for car fraud. They know the difference between fraud and restoration and that the term 'numbers matching' has no legal definition. Apparently you don't. There again, most NCRS bashers don't.
