Saint!

Did you ever pull the entire motor from the car and perform the bench test as outlined in the video. The last time we talked you still had not done this and you had the motor in the car.

I'd hate to send one to you and then you have the same problem.

No i never had it out of the car. Took the lid off and cleaned it with WD 40. Have not tryed it any after that.
But when the wiper motor run and i take off the ground terminal the wipers park where they are at the windshield the moment i disconnect the ground so there have to be something wrong i think

Please remove the motor from the car.... and do the test exactly as shown in the video... I'm gonna bet it works when you do this.. Do not leave any wires attached to the motor from the car.. and hard wire it to either an extra battery or a good 12 volt power supply.

Then.. you let me know the results. I hate to say this but again.. I'm betting on the motor and I hope I'm correct!

Default Could you do a video of a C1 wiper motor test

Could you guys do a video of how to test a C1 wiper motor? Mine's a 60. Do I just ground the case, put 12v to the brown wire, and move over the switch on the case?

Thanks,

Rick

Missed this from you Rick, Sorry.

Yes, you power up the brown wire and ground the case. Operate the motor from the slide on the front cover.

Default missing ground

Thanks for the video and information on the site. Was able to test the my wiper motor works when you supply 12 v to center connector and both speeds when grounding the outside wires(yellow and blue).

My issue is tracking the elusive missing ground as the yellow wire on the harness shows a ground, the blue one does not. Looking at the wiring diagram, the blue is not tied to anything and since the yellow wire has a ground, assume that the switch is getting a good ground from the cluster?

The switch is new as well as the wiring harness. What are best places to start chasing this?

Also the ground wire under the dash off the radio is connected to birdcage and confirmed that ground is good. All my dash lights, clock work.

The yellow and light blue wires ground through the wiper switch body to the cluster (for motor speed), as does the dark blue wire for the washers. Both the motor AND the switch must be grounded; there are no other grounds in the circuit.

Thanks for the quick reply

I tested that wiper motor was grounded, it checked out.

I disconnected the connector from the motor and checked for a ground at the light blue and yellow wire connections. The yellow wire showed a ground, the light blue did not, thus my dilemma is the switch getting good ground from cluster since yellow wire is showing a ground?

A nice video to add...would be the installation of the grab bar...particularly the grueling technique required to get the chrome "end caps" up over the vinyl (and back) to install properly...

Default one two three connector for 79 wipermotor

Great video, good education. I am tinkering with a 79 wipermotor, where the 123 connector is broken. Who knows where to get such a repair item. Any tip highly appreciated.

Rose.. I forgot to do the test for you.. I'll do it soon.

60.. you just need the connector? Or the terminals?

The three terminals are inbedded in a plastik piece which is revited to the aluminum case or body of the motor. The plastic piece of that 123 Connector, as you call it in the video, is broken.

As my wiper motor is mechanically very good I'd like to drill out the connector and replace it in order to have the three terminals separated properly.

This piece... I'm not sure if I have any left but it really isn't hard to find one. Most motors from the 70's and early 80's used this terminal.

If you have one left, would you send it in a padded envelope to Europe?
Let me know your details by PM and I would answer accordingly right away.
Thanks, appreciate your service to the forum very much. Learned a lot by your videos and other tips.

Torose: Today I drove down to the shop and fired up the tester and the video camera. However... I think I can explain this to you... because there were some other interesting things to show on the video I'll try to get this edited and up as soon as possible.

The noise you are hearing is a clicking noise correct:

The only way to make the motor click when the switch is turned on is for there to not be a ground present on the motor case.

When you turn on the wiper switch it grounds out the yellow and the blue wires for low speed. If your motor case is not properly grounded properly it will back feed voltage and cause the electromagnetic coil in the park switch to engage, and click.

This is the only way to make the motor do the clicking noise. I think if I were you I would run a new ground from the engine to the wiper motor and see if your issue goes away. Did you bench test the motor as in the video above to see if it functions properly?

I'll post up the newest video soon.. possibly later tonight.
