Had the cluster out to paint and change the bulbs.Well this would be a great time to change the oil line as well,(wrong)! Took out the old fitting to replace the new oil line and dropped the male brass fitting. Now you would figure it would hit the garage floor.Wrong again. I spent over 2 hours looking for that little sob with no luck. I swear if I had the engine hoist I would have pulled the motor ( just venting). I finally gave up cursing and calling it everything you can think of,like thats going to make it appear. Watch tomorrow I will find it on the garage floor,( wishful thinking). Thanks for letting me vent !!
when that has happened to me, and it happens to all of us, I walk away, and grab an adult beverage. When I go back later to resume search, I start by looking in places the part could not possibly have rolled to...
It is always right there !
I always take this magnet I have on the end of a two foot flexable handle and just start moving it around. A lot of time the magnet will grab it from somewhere.

Yeah.
I just love my "special" magnet that grabs hold of brass parts.
If your really worried about the fitting landing in the place that will cause the most damage, heating the car to 940 degrees will melt the brass part. By doing so, you will never have to work on this car again.
- have someone look under the car while you spray some air all around the engine compartment. It's worked for me.
This is what I do after a normal search all around, crank up the air compressor and grab the blow gun, get under neath and start shooting bursts of air into the nooks and crannies to knock it loose. From experience, wait till the compressor kicks off, then a burst of air and listen for it.. it will appear after a while.
Two days ago I was reinstalling the front sway bar on my '65 and I had it on upside down (yes, you can do that) so I'm taking the sway bar links apart and just laying them on the floor with the sway bay balanced on 3 boxes, those bars are heavy you know. Well I get the bar back into postion and I'm hooking up the links and lo and behold I only have 7 bushings when I KNOW I had 8 bushings just minutes ago. I backed the other two cars out of the garage, swept the floor on my hands and knees with a foxtail broom and never did find it. Next morning I had to call Paragon and order a another set of bushings. I guess the Cookie Monster must have ate it!!!
