Default Power Antenna Question

I just had my power antenna replaced on my 1966 coupe, but it doesn't fully retract. It stays extended about 8 inches. This may be a stupid question, but it is suppose to fully retract into the car, correct?

Nope, yours sounds like it is working correctly.

No I believe it shows the 8" as you mention. Don't have the antenna fully up when you go fast or you will be replacing it again. That was a major problem with them. They would bend at high speeds and not retract. So, if you want to go highway fast , put down the antenna to the lowest position you can and still get reception. Full down is best.

If it stays up 8", it's not an original one. Originals retract to approx. 12". The fixed mast (the bottom one) is 11" and the other section don't completely retract. The "correct repo.s" aren't even close to the original. They are shorter and the mast is quite a bit smaller in diameter.

The snake is correct. It is probably an asian repro.

If you have an original, Greg (gthompson49) is THE GO TO guy to have it fixed/restored. He's as honest as the day is long. Thanks for the great service on my 65 antenna (the S. Ca. car)

Default Rubber Tip

Is the rubber tip only on the repro's?

I have the repro and it works great.. Stored the original.

So far it hasn't bent at full mast, but I drive slower than you guys, haven't gone much over 80..

Cheers, Zale

The originals have a diamond shaped tip. The "concours" repo's. have the same tip as the original but that's the only similarity to an original.

You're supposed to remove the rubber tip. It is a shipping protector only. Underneath is an asian version of the 65/66 tip. It didn't convert to the metric system very well.
