I have a friend who recently purchased a 58 vette what is described as a 1965 corvette 327 and a 4 speed trans. Can anyone tell me what these numbers decode to:
trans has 3885010 then below it is has" U.S. Patent No. 3088336 General motors corp"
engine number shows to be 3914678
anyone know where these parts may have originated? We know they aren't what came in the car but would like to know what we have.

Your trans is a 3885010 = Maincase number for 1966-67 ... M20, M21 or M22. Your block is a 68 chevy 327. You can type in this stuff and do some easy searches for the answers. I am sure someone else will provide more detailed info then me. Greg
