I am in the process of reinstalling my instrument panel and noticed that the capacitor wires for the ammeter and the one near the ignition switch have brittle wires and have broken. I have ordered new ones but I am wondering if I will hurt anything if I complete the installation and run the engine before the new capacitors arrive.

The capacitors are just for blocking radio interference . They do not effect the running of car or motor.
Just make sure you disconnect battery before installing them. Make sure the connectors to amp gauge and ignition do not touch anything except the terminal (s) they attach to.
The capacitor that attaches to the tan brake light wire does not have to be screwed down to the cluster. You can drill a hole in cross frame closer to parking brake switch, screw it down and that will ground the capacitor as if it where on cluster. Attach the capacitor wire to the tan wire at this point.
It will give you much more room to move cluster and you won't have to touch it again.
I too am installing my cluster but have forgotten where to attach the wire off the capacitor attached to the amp guage. thanks Mike
I believe it attaches to the right side terminal as you are looking at the gauge from below , in back of cluster. The terminal that is closest to the door.
Thanks jackfit for the help. Your response to michael m baily is correct (I just looked at the wiring behind the cluster for the battery) the capacitor wire attaches to the right side terminal (next to the driver's side door).
