Hoping someone can help with this.....Changing windshield seal/gasket on my '65 coupe....leaking also doing paint. Anyway, I have all the info on how to do the job, just hear all sorts of complaints that the replacement gasket is too thick and makes the trim fit poorly. Anybody found a proper seal or know how to remedy the problem? Thanks!

It took me three gaskets to get one that worked right. The vendor that I got the last one from was ZIP and it went right in. As for making it not leak it's important to use the bedding and glazing in the channel and the window weld for the seal between the glass and the gasket.
Here is my thread about my trials and tribulations...
On my last change of the w/s I purchased a seal from Corvette Rubber. Fit perfectly and I was able to install the w/s mouldings without having to do any type of trimming on the gasket/seal at all. The seal from Corvette Rubber is softer and a lot easier to work with. I assume you know how to install the seal since that has been posted on this forum on quite a few occasions. As to getting the w/s area to seal against water leakage, that is a problem. You will get a number of different ways. I had to peal my w/s seal back from the inside and force sealant between the seal and the w/s frame/birdcage. I also put a bead of silicon in the channel that holds the glass. I did this after the w/s and seal were installed. I do have one small area where the w/s leaks yet but I can live with that. At least I am not getting flooded any longer when I drive in the rain or wash the car. Hope this helps and good luck.

If you used silicone on any of the metal surfaces, in my professional opinion, thats a big for silicone does not repel water. The edges will peel up over time and then water is allowed to sit under it until a rust hole develops, then the water will drain out. I have seen many a car ruined by silicone.

It wasn't on the metal!!!! I was in the channel that holds the glass. I used bedding glaze on the surface that mates to the birdcage.
