updates from the week:
got the new gas pedal in place and bolted down.. now i gotta run the stupid cable.
also got the seats picked up. 200 bucks for whatever color.. this is the wifes car guys,so dont flame me to bad for this
so, a new question for those of you "familiar" with this build...
the car is a '54, i have '54 doors, and i have '57 door strikers... what is the difference in door jambs from '54 to '57?? i have seen pictures of the '54 striker vs the '57, and it looks like half the '57.. if i buy the star wheels for a 54, will it strike into the 57 strikers? if i buy 57 starwheels, will they fit on the '54 doors? if i buy all 54 stuff, will it fit in the jambs properly? AHHHH!!!!!
You are a brave man for taking on that project. I have rebuilt some tough looking cars, but nothing like yours. Good luck, Show us pictures as you continue you rebuild.
heheheh. i actually kind of like the seat color choice. it wasnt my first choice, but total dig the custom thing.
Thanks on the congrats! i actually just got all of the lighting to work properly a couple of days ago.. not exactly what i wanted (3 on all the time with brake in the center) but, it works none the less. i was having a problem with when i turn the running lights on, the brake light would fade out, BAD. so, i cut a running light and spliced it into the brake light, and viola!
wow, approx 2 years since i update this... I guess it has been sitting a while.
I used to live in hawaii, and now i have moved back to texas. I had my '79 to keep my company, and title issues kept me from this car for quite a few months.. Well, I got the title straightened out and the car to texas, and with my '79 being stolen and insurance paying out, it left me with a bit to give back to my wife's car.
how she sits now:
some parts waiting around for her:
the parts are the raingear 2 speed w/ delay wiper system from ecklers. The old stuff is just sitting around right now. I havent really figured out what im going to do with all of it yet. Probably sell off whatever doesnt get used. This would be finished, but apparently you bolt this to the windshield... and the windshield isnt going on until the front end is on.. so yay me.
I have a new windshield frame and all the seals that go with it in various places around the garage.. For now though the windshield will stay in its box. no use pulling it out until i get the front end back on.
Finally, we have the New front end sitting here.. This is where things get really fun. I have absolutely no idea how to attach this thing. I have patched a few fiberglass holes, but never anything even close to this. Looks like im going to have to find a mentor, or start saving to pay out the posterior.
Anyways, i figured yall would like to know this project hasnt died, it just got sidelined for a bit while i finished getting out of the army, and moving, and buying a house, and correcting the '79 my father-in-law wrecked into a cow, and then having that same 79 stolen, and buying a '68, and building a small scale Stonehenge... Ahh life and all its wonders
I meant to state and ask:
I am in Texas now (san antonio). Does anyone know of a person that would be interested in teach some major fiberglassing? I would love to have this front end on by years end.. Gonna start tearing into eventually one way or another.. Would really like to do it "correctly" though
People buy parts for their project(s), and too often it is quite some time before the parts get installed which are still boxed up. Now the boxes get opened, at a much later date, and the part is defective/damaged.
It's always a good idea to inspect everything upon receiving, to avoid a headache later. I would inspect that windshield.
I have checked all the sides of it at delivery. It actually says to do so right on the box. I mean more that it is staying in there now so as not to be damaged by me or my kids inadvertently
thanks for the heads up though. I think you are right that this happens more than it should.
