Default Coolant level question.

This weekend I drained a little less than a gallon of coolant from my car (64 coupe 327-365HP) in order to do 2 things. I wanted to remove my exhaust manifolds to repaint them with POR15-Factory manifold gray. So I drained some coolant to remove the expansion tank and battery to give me more assess to remove the manifold. In addition, I wanted to replace the modern hose clamp with the correct style spring clamps on the heater hoses. I was surprise to find that I had no problem removing the nuts and bolts to remove the exhaust manifold. Did not even need to use any bolt penetranting oil. Must have been my lucky day. So here is my question: Since it will probably be this weekend that I get around to painting the manifolds, should I re-connect my heater hoses and add coolant or can I leave the system partially drained without resulting in too much corrosion where the coolant level was drained? Thanks for your thoughts.

Dave

I have done a similar thing on my '67. Don't worry about it. Clean up the threads on the manifold bolts, but if the heads are rounded off, consider replacing them. Re-torque them upon installation. Becareful putting the hoses back on the heater. Use a little silicone so they slip on, rather than force/rock/twist them, and possibly cracking the heater core. Dennis

Do you have an aluminium rad? They do not like to be dry and will corrode quite quickly. If you do , it needs to be wet all the time.
Learning this cost me $600-
