Default Dash Vent

On a 66 why do some cars have a rectangular vent above the a/c or heater controls. I notice this on some, but not all factory a/c cars.

All factory A/C cars had the dash vent. Non A/C cars did not. You probably saw an aftermarket A/C installation such as vintage air. They have similar side vents to factory A/C cars and do not install a dash vent because of the expense and difficulty.

That was my assumption but needed a second opinion. I have been around vettes many years and owned quite a few but still need some good info at times. I am getting back into the game after being out almost twenty years. Thanks 1stTexan.

Yep, the quickest way to determine if a midyear has factory A/C is looking for the center vent AND the two extra control ***** above the clock.

Ya I know where you are coming from. I was in the same boat about a year ago. Lots of old car knowledge but lots of holes in it. Almost all on the Forum are VERY understanding and helpfull.
There are a few unhappy individuals whose only goal is to prove themselves right and everbody else wrong. Ignore them.
