Can anyone vouch for one of the vendors on the best C2 side mirror? I bought one from LIC and it did not last one year. It is cheap. I have pulled the mirror portion out and tried to rivet/peen it as JohnZ suggested but it did not last. My original one is not good either. Chrome is back and it falls also. Tried to peen that one too but it didn't work. I am just looking for a serviceable one that will go on my car as a driver. It doesn't have to be show chrome quality, just quality construction. Any thoughts???
I bought one from Corvette Central, but after a year or two the mirror head began flopping around.
Then I bought one used that was said to come from a different vendor, and it is too wide at the base and flops around on the same door mount on which that the Corvette Central unit fits properly.
Ultimately I took my Corvette Central mirror apart and whacked the pins a few times to tighten up the floppy head. Don't know how long that will last, though, and based on your comment I suspect not long.
My main point, is I have 2 mirrors that appear to have come from 2 different vendors, and fit differently.
I cut a small piece of aluminum flashing about an inch and a half long and narrow enough to fit between the peened posts, then cut a V notch about .75inch deep into one long end. I slipped the V notched end of the aluminum between the posts, then pulled (with pliers on the V notch ends) it until the swivel got past the point of the V notch - so there is a (higher coefficient of friction) piece of aluminum between the ball and the plate peened to the mirror.

That was 7-8 years ago and still no problems.
Magic,
My problem is that the posts are already bad. I can't slip anything under as the tops of the posts will pull through the metal strip that is already there. I tried peening the posts but there wasn't enough material left to get a good solid rivet type head on them. I have to go to a new mirror again.

Steve
one of my posts was loose too. I drilled a small hole in it, ground off the peened surface and inserted a small pan head sheet metal screw. It's still there.

This sounds like a better idea. I will try that. I can't lose anything. The damn thing is no good the way it is. Thanks for the tip.
