Default Oil Change from Hell

My newly rebuilt motor was ready for its 500 mile oil change so I decided to do it yesterday afternoon. Simple enough or so I thought. I drained the oil, replaced the filter and added the new oil to the motor. When I went to check the oil level on the dipstick....the tube broke offwhere it meets the flared flange that is driven down into the block. I spent this morning working the remaining broken piece out of the block. Luckily, I had a GM replacement tube in my parts stash. The weather is too nice to be laid up in the garage!

Hey we feel your pain!!!! At least you found and fixed the problem!!!

Thats why I hate doing oil changes for customers (non Vette)....never know what problems likely to find....stuck filters, stripped drain plugs, etc etc!!!

And now lots of cars are using cartridge filters

I see that you removed the clutch cross shaft and some shielding. Successfully removing that portion of the tube is a major accomplishment. Good job.
I finally got a chance to take the LT out for a run other than to the entrance of the subdivision and back. Sandy and I made a 25 mile loop yesterday, and, I must tell you, that car is schweet! It drives like a million bucks and the tranny sounds great and shifts like butter.
i'm doing things a little slower, these days, but is really nice to finally experience the car.
If you don't move those TT2's, I might be interested in a swap for my 870 Flint block (for a spare for you). It's dated E55, May 5.
Keep up the good work,...I'm jealous!! Tell Alan howdy.
Regards,
Chuck

That would be a pain to work on or getting it out. Great job looks like you are back on the road again now...

It was a pain. For moment, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get it out. A screw driver, hammer and the some needle nose vice grips saved the day. I really tore the piece up getting it out. I stuffed some dumb dumb putty into the opening to prevent metal particles from falling in the motor

Now I'm jealous! I still remember how sweet that LT-1 runs. Glad you and Sandy are enjoying the car.

Send me some pics when you get finished detailing it out.
