66 Arriving this week. Wanted some ideas on storing the hardtop in the garage. I do not think I will be using it often. I have limited space in my garage. Thinking of maybe hanging it on the wall. Would like some ideas on building a rack. Thanks as always, Joe
Make a rack hanging from the ceiling of the garage.... it takes 2 people to put it up and take down. I did that years ago, safe and out of the way so no scartchs are incurred.Sam
I bought one of those roll around racks several years ago and it took up too much floor space so I mounted it on the wall up high so it is out of the way. I didn't have to build anything out of angle iron or 2x4s, I just screwed it to the wall studs. Sometimes the easiest way is the best way.
Here's a pic of the one I built . . . . . flat aluminum bar stock, pretty simple, with pipe insulation pads for protection . . . . .
I made one similar, I copied the style from the aftermarket guys, with 1" tubing and flat bar, with wheels so you can move it where ever you want. Also used tape backed foam for the hardtop to rest on.
Many years ago I made a plywood "shelf" that hangs above the front end
(or could also be the rear end) with 1/2 inch plywood with 2"x 2" lip. It is hung from the ceiling joists with chain. Once on the shelf I cover it with a soft moving blanket. It has been there many years without incident and has worked for me. It is out of the way and does not take up needed wall space.
Hang it from the ceiling. Good use of free 'air space' storage. I used ceiling suspension wire and bungee cords to suspend my hardtop from the ceiling. The idea was to suspend the hardtop, in place, about 2-3 inches above the body, and drive out from under it when not in use. The hardtop needs to move to the right so the antenna clears. The hardtop being fairly low to the body when suspended allowed for 'one man' operation, in removal or installation. With the top loose lift one side, suspend, then the other. Same, or reverse, for re-installation.

A lot of suppliers still sell the roof top hoisting gizmmo with one main heavy strap going down to a four way split with hooks placed with the right length for your top. The main strap then goes down the wall to a locking receptacle on the wall, making on-off a one man easy job. And, takes up no floor space.
