My 64 has the original drive train that is rebuilt. It was originally sateen silver with a silver and black interior. It is now Nassau blue. I think the price on all the mid years is down. That being the case, I would paint it whatever color you like. I don't worry about the numbers matching and original colors, The purists will flame me for my views, and I respect their view point, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Enjoy your car and don't save it for the next person.Just my 2 cents worth.
I suppose i kind of agree in that the car does not have to be original.
My car is red and have a perfect paint job(was like that when i bought it back in 1993)but if the car needed a respray i would go for original Daytona Blue. I think that is because i like the colour better and better.
The first time i saw the colour i could not stand it. I thought it looked so bad. Now i really like it.
Have a look at Poorhousenext Corvette. That is one tuff Corvette and far from original.
Your car already has a diminished market place, because it is a 64. Many would-be buyers will not consider a 64. Good car, nothing wrong with it at all, but some buyers discount it, and look for other years. So, the year is a strike against it.
Maybe.............maybe not. Seems 64's have been pigeonholed as 'undesirable' for as long as one can remember. These cars share virtually all (or most) of the same mechanical parts as later model C2's - the major exception, of course, 64's being drum brake equipped.
The smart money says buy a '64............make the wife/girlfriend happy with a vacation to Tahiti.................You still end up with a C2. .. A win/win! ..
I have a 1964 Corvette that seems to be numbers matching in good shape but not great. It has just been jell coated and I'm having the interior redone. My question is, should I go back to the origional silver-blue color with dark blue vinyl interior or a nice red with black vinyl interior. And do I need to go with the red from 64 or does any Corvette red work. Would any red like Viper red work. Please let me know what you think when you have some time. Thanks.
If this was a matching numbers Fuelie or 340hp. With other options etc.. It should be kept original. If you don't mind it losing some value, paint it the color that pleases you most.
Lesser optioned cars matching or not. Won't lose much if any vlaue. Thats assuming the color change over is complete and properly done. A poor color change will drop the price $5-10k "The cost of putting it right."
Remember, that "Corvette blue" is a mighty popular color.
I didn't like the color of my car, (Goodwood Green) when I bought it.
Its kinda grew on me, and others like it. My favorite is red with a black stinger hood. Just my opinion
I'm still on the fence with this red vs silver-blue car color as it seems to be going about 50 - 50. If I go with red, does it have to be the red from 1964, any corvette red or can I use any red under the sun? Thanks

I say whatever floats your boat. Mine is not at all the normal red and I never heard a complaint.
Would anybody mind posting pictures of red and silver-blue coupes to help me make a decision. Thanks for the help.
Personally, I would go with the original color here. A red 64 that is not the original color will NOT be worth more than an original silver blue car. I also think the silver blue is a very impressive color when seen in person.
And you can review samples of the colors by going to: http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/default.aspx
... and selecting Chevrolet as the Make, and then the year you are interested in.
1964
Tuxedo Black
Ermine White
Riverside Red
Satin Silver
Silver Blue
Daytona Blue
Saddle Tan

... seen in person Silver Blue is stunning when the sun hits different angles of the car. It will make you want to have Silver Blue if you have ever seen one at a car show in the sunset.
