I'm thinking about putting Hurst Linkage in with a stock style shifter on my muncie trans, has anybody here done that, dumb question, anyway if so how do you like it. I see the kit in corvette central for $439.00 it's gotta be some pretty short throws, I remember on my 55 chevy with that linkage it was pretty cool. I don't care about judging, I'm not into that. Thanks Ditch
Ditch, when I bought my '65 Coupe back in '85 there was a Hurst shifter already in it. With all the projects I've had over the years I only put about 200 miles on that car after doing a body-off in the late 80's and while the Hurst was very 'positive', I still felt the original Muncie Shifter was smoother so when I started taking the 65 back out of mothball status a few months ago, I sold off the Hurst to one Forum member and bought a Muncie shifter from another Forum member and that's in there now. The Hurst worked fine, it was just a matter of personal preference, that's all. Kinda like a Chocolate vs Vanilla thing.
By the way, you mentioned short throws, is your existing Muncie on the long or short throw setting? If it's on the long setting, you might feel differently about it after setting it to the short throw.
Just a thought.

I've had a Hurst Competition Plus Curved Short Stick in my '65 for 30+ years. Also had one in a '67 for a number of years. Less rattles and more positive feel, plus you can swap from round ball to tee handle to change things up.
You mentioned you were not into originality, with that said hold on to the Muncie if you make the swap. Watch this forum, feebay, NCRS Driveline and swap meets. Not trying to keep CC from making a sale but you should be able to score a decent Comp + for less than 1/2 what they want.
Might try to be sure you purchase one that has been in a C-2 as ones out of Chevelles, Impallas and C3's will have longer stick which you may not care for.
Hurst made the short curved stick Comp + for the C2's well into the '70s
I have my Hurst Comp. Plus for 26-27 years. No rattles, no missed shifts and good feel. You can also get a short straight stick like mine. Very good hand position. It goes with the other incorrect things on my '67. I saved my old Muncie unit for the next guy. Dennis
You can accomplish the same thing cheaper. Look at the two items below. They only total $318.00 without shipping. You'll pay that from CC anyway. Also, with this setup you can use the stock Corvette shifter rods for 1/2 and 3/4. They are heavier than the Hurst and you can get the short throw with this setup. You have to use the reverse rod from Hurst. The Corvette shifter arms give you a more accurate adjustment when setting up the shifter. It is close when putting on the shifter arms but I have this exact setup on my 66. Also, use the steel bushing from Hurst, not the fiber ones. It will save you some headaches.

No comparison in performance, Hurst all the way, short precise throws, forward-backward limiters, and no incessant rattling noise, like the muncie on short throw.

Agreed, there is a reason every old Corvette has a Hurst on it. Most were installed hours after the car was purchased. Stock shifters are junk, plus Linda Vaughn is still hot!
Okay fella's sounds like the Hurst shifter is the way to go, thanks for all your help. But I need to know who is Linda Vaughn. And yes it is set on the long throw setting.
Lynda Vaughn was Miss Hurst in the later 60's early 70's. Always showed up at NHRA and NASCAR events, big time car shows riding on the convertable boot of an Olds mostly. The good lord provided extra for her if you know what I mean. She still makes events such a BJ auction SEMA show convention and maybe some other stuff. Google her name. Dennis
I forgot what I was going to say after viewing those pictures.
The Hurst shifter can have the Muncie style T handle and chrome **** adapted to it, and I considered it but after all, it's a Hurst so I decided to go with the white ball. I also have a black ball and T handle. I saw a chrome **** on eBay for about 20 bucks that doesn't use the Muncie T. Eventually, if I can find one cheap enough, I'll get the Muncie style adapter just to have. I saved the old Muncie as well, although that thing sure rattled alot. The Hurst is smooth in comparison. The newer ones can change out the sticks with only two bolts. The older vwersions have a fixed curved stick.

Mines got the two bolt short straight stick. Hurst doesn't offer a look-a-like stick for the early cars. I mounted an old wood **** to match my wheel, and it mounted so it was even shorter than the white one. I love it.

I believe that Linda Vaughn also owns one of only two built 1969 Hurst Olds convertibles. I hope that it's equipped with a tilt column
Anybody have interference issues with there hurst shifter and the center exhaust hanger. I was unable to use my center hanger with the hurst shifter that was in my 64 when I bought it. Exhaust rattles sometimes without the center hanger.

That's because it had the wrong model Hurst shifter; the one for the Corvette application was unique, with a 90* offset in the reverse shifter lever, to clear the crossmember and exhaust hanger; see photo below.
