C1 Antenna Cable
Thanks.. Pierre
The tank doesn"t effect the location of the cable. It runs in the chase along side the sill plate, behind the convertible top brackets, and then is clamped along the topside of the convertible top well. I then goes through a hole, into the trunk, and and is held in place along the top edge of the trunk rail with "glued in place" clips, until it gets to the mast. Hope this helps.

But my Noland Adams C1 Tech Ref & Guide show the earlier cars ('57) runs, apparently, almost on top of the left side rear wheel well .. I can't tell if that is in the gas tank cavity or not by the picture...but I'd go with Mike's guidance.

I don't think '56 and '57 are the same as '61 and '62. I can get the cable from the trunk to the soft top area. From there I can see a small part of the rear harness but can't tell where it goes down to the sill area, this is where the antenna cable should also go. If I remember right, it is quite obvious with the tank out but with the tank in, I just can't see where the antenna cable and rear harness go in and down to the sill area.
Attach the new cable to the old cable and pull it through. TIP - spray the cavity with WD40 so it pulls through the caulk easier.
Good luck, it can be done.
Worse case, grind a small channel on the underside of the inner fender well where the cable is sandwiched between the upper surround and floor pan. After the new cable is installed, just resin/mat over it and undercoat.
I was wrong on my quote. I forgot that the 56/7 cars run the cable through the tank well. The last one that I did (several years ago), I installed the cable with the tank out. My guess is that you could still do it, but I would remove the grommets so that you have some extra room. Sorry about the misinformation. Good luck.
