Default Spring Woes Continue

I got the new carb installed and everything was great. So I thought. The car ran better than ever on the first ride. I put the car away for a week and came back to go for a spin, it spit a sputtered and would not run right. I took off the air cleaner and noticed gas coming out of the rear vent tube. I took off the rear bowl to see if the float was stuck all lokked normal. Put it back together and it ran fine, put it away and then it happened again. Took it apart again took the float off and needle and seat out. Once again all looked normal,I blew everything dry. As I was putting it back together I picked up the float to install it and it had a wet spot under where I sat it and wallah I had found the problem, brand new carb with a hole in the float. I must be snake bitten. At least I found. On the bright side I learned how to take apart my carb. Sorry for the long rant but I had to tell somebody. I'l call Jeg's in the am and get a new replacement I hope.

If it's the copper float, it can be soldered. Bill.

If you were to get a nitrophyl float, you wouldn't have to worry about that happening again.

Well solder it then, using silver solder on the float which is actually brass, not copper. Bill.

Shemp, no doubt about it, you entitled to a new one. What I was trying to convey to you was it can be fixed this evening and you're back on the road. You did say it ran great before.
Why wait a week or so? Bill

You should get a replacement. If you decide not to there is a procedure to float repair. The gas needs to be purged from the float, etc.

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water . If the carb is otherwise fine I would just fix or replace the float.

Shemp, I feel guilty after recommending this carb The reality is that very few carbs, Holley included, don't require some tweaking out of the box. I have also found some metal shavings in the primary metering block on new Holleys. Once you get it sorted out, you will enjoy it.

Jeg's is going to replace it and pay shipping. It's off the car and will go out tomorrow. Paul please don't feel guilty. Other than this little setback
the car has never run better. Should have the new one by the weekend. My reason for sending the whole carb back is that there is no exterior float adjustment on this carb and I hope the new ones levels are tested at the factory.

Welcome to life with vintage Corvettes...

I bet I spent 3-4 hours fixing for every hour of driving when I first got my car. The "ride-to-repair ratio" has now finally reversed and I prob get 4-5 hours driving to an hour maintenance.
