I have a '63 vert and I was re-installing my guage cluster and the wire leading to the capacitor (low on the ignition side of the cluster) popped out of the capacitor. What does this particular capacitor do? It is not hooked to the ignition, so I assume my car will still start, but it is wired to the harness. From the various catalogs and diagrams I see, my 63 has two, one on each side and the 64-67s have three behind the cluster. I ordered a new one (expensive little bugger), but was curious as to what it does. Thanks.

Your car should start fine and there are so many C1s/C2s running around with blown capacitors right now that aren't even noticed its probably amazing. (My car may be one of them!)

From my ex-Marine instructor in fundamental electronics class during avionics training...."capacitors are like a rubber, they hold the charge and pass the effect".
