loose outside mirror on 63 SWC
My rear view mirror on the door(63 SWC) is loose but the set screw is tight. Is there hardware behind the door panel that may be loose? Or the wrong set screw? Any comments?
Thanks,
Tom

I think all mid-year outside mirrors are loose . . . .

As Bowtyeguy noted, take the mirror off and confirm the mount is tight. If the mirror is loose on the mount, then I'm not really sure how best to fix that. I've owned 2 different repro mirrors for my 65 - one fit tightly on the door mount, the other did not.

Wobbly outside mirror fix
Here's how I fixed mine.
Take off the mirror and the mount.
Get a piece of an old bike inner tube.
Trace and cut out the shape of the mount.
Put the mount in the cut out part
Carefully set the mirror on the mount
Trace around the base of the mirror and cut along your line.
This is what you'll end up with.
Reinstall the mount (with or without the existing gasket - it doesn't matter).
Install your new inner tube gasket around the mount.
Install mirror.
It doesn't matter what you use for your home made gasket, all you're trying to do is fill the space between the base of the mirror and the car door caused by a poorly designed repro mirror.

I know that this is an really old thread, but i must say that this forum is great!
I had the same problem and the solution that nassau66427 provided worked out great for my loose mirror.
Thanks a lot!

I'm surprised that no one has inserted the usual mindless complaint about reviving an old post. This thread is a perfect example of the timelessness of certain information and the value of repeating same.
