Default Walnut steering wheel

Was there such thing as a "real walnut wood" steering wheel for mid year Vettes as opposed to the "plastic walnut wood" steering wheel. I know about and own a "real teak" steering wheel. Can someone clarify this for me. Dennis

If it was going to be on any Chevy car it would have been the Corvette. but I don't think the safety laws for the 67 model year would allow real wood for steering wheels.

'Dunno about that, if so someone forgot to tell the Italians.
Probably more a cost cutting thing?

Here's a pretty interesting site on GM steering wheels of the late 60s and early 70s. It is focused on Camaros, but has a lot of good photos of other GM products

Nope. The only "real" wood wheel was the optional N32 teak wheel in '65-'66.

The reason for the post was, a person has an E-bay listing #300421468169 for a walnut steering wheel for a Vette. I e-mailed the person and asked if it was plastic simulated wood. He said no. Then sent another e-mail stating the facts of it being plastic...no response! Dennis

Checked the pics in the listing, for sure a regular old plastic wheel.

Imports safety restricitons were more lax until the late 70s.

Seems like I remember the ads of the day stating the standard wheel for the 64-67 was an imitation walnut plastic wheel . . .

I don't think this guy on E-Bay knows what he has . . . . . . not unusual.
