Resto Mod Trans options
I run a power glide in my 66 right now. When restored the car back in 01 it was a sunday hot rod with a visit to the track from time to time. Now i want to make it more drivable on the street looking for a automatic trans with over drive that can support the power I have aprox 750hp. I was thinking along the lines of a 4l60 has any one installed one in a mid year will it fit. I am totally open to everyones input fire away.

A 4L60 will fit. Some Performance transmission builders claim they can build one that can handle 750 HP.
I think you'll find most say around 600 HP is max it can take. Above that it a 4L80 4 speed or Th400 3 speed with the bigger 32 spline rather than the 27 spline output shaft.
I test fitted a 4L80E in my 64 and it fit tunnel better than the 4L60. It's a heaviest of all the GM Automatics. It's rear mount point is about 6"-7" aft of the 4L60 because of it's longer pan.
It was a minor X-member mod for me (using a non stock Vette X member but it mounts in stock location just does not have exhaust openings but same other than that). Notched it to fit pan on front side and added rear mounting bracket on backside. I can still run either transmission by adding back bracket on front side of x-member to mount the 4L65E.
Here is link that should give you a good idea of different automatic fitments. With the HP you have, I would advise joining a performance oriented forum that has a transmission forum to see which trans can hold the HP.
