1966 HP Engine Code
The HP engine code for 1966 denotes L79 with AC, PS and 4 speed.
Since there is no code for an L79 with AC, 4 speed, and WITHOUT PS...can one assume that all cars built with AC also had PS? Or did the AC (C60) option just get installed onto an HT engine if PS was not an option?
For reference, here are the codes:
HT 327-350 Hi-LiftCam & 4-Speed
HD 327-350 Hi-Lift Cam, K19 & 4-Speed
HP 327-350 Hi-Lift Cam, A/C, P/S & 4-Speed
KH 327-350 Hi-Lift Cam, K19, A/C, P/S, 4-Speed
There would seem to be a few more combinations than those listed above, but I can't seem to find a good explanation of how the coding system worked.
Thanks

1966 and 1967 L-79 with 4-speed and factory air only (no PS) was coded as HT.
I have one of these cars, and have talked to many others with the same configuration and engine stamping.

There is no Engineering reason for a '66 or '67 with either A/C or power steering to have a unique engine assembly, as neither option has any affect on the basic engine as-shipped. It mattered in '64-'65 due to the relocation of the alternator to the LH side with A/C, but not in '66-'67 when ALL alternators were LH-mounted.
We may never know why they assigned the "HP" suffix, but known-original cars with A/C and/or power steering have been observed with "HT" suffixes. This debate has gone on for years.

Does anyone have an original tank sticker that shows this? Would love to see it.

My '67 L79 with A/C and P/S has an HP suffix, original engine, all shown on tank sticker.
