Their underwriter is 'American Modern Insurance'. The price is lower but they have strict guidlines. For instance if you have a mileage restriction your odometer better work. If an accident happens at 1001 miles with a 1000 mile limit per year, you're SOL. At least that's what they told me. Not dissing them, just FYI.

They have several different mileage limits available, not just 1000 miles. I have my Corvette's and Cobra insured with them but I went through a Midwest Classic Insurance. Much cheaper than NCM and the broker is a real car guy. Most of the Cobra crowd uses them because there are very few co.'s that will insure them. I've never heard anything bad about them.

They only charge liability one time, regardless of how many cars you're insuring with them. That's a big advantage with multiple cars.

I don't know why folks don't go with American Hobbyist....no mileage limitations and pleasure driving is allowed and rates are decent.... AND I had a $2,700 windshield replacement claim and there was not the slightest glitch in getting it fixed...and rates never went up a penny.

I checked them out. American Modern Insurance had much better rates, especially on the Cobra and I know many who are with them and speak highly of them. They also have unlimited mileage policies but with 3 collector cars, there's no reason for me to have it.

I switched from Hagerty to NCM this year, better premiums, thats all I can say for sure at this point. Don't ever want to have to use it to find out how claims go.

Interesting ? Just ran the American Modern Ins. web site instant quote for the '61 w/ unlimited mileage and it is $468 vs the $332 I pay now with American Hobbyist.

I just did the same with AH getting a quote for my 60 & 65 Corvette's and my Cobra. The only difference in coverages is that AH has a $100K limit on liability whereas with AMI, I have $500K. Everything else being exactly the same (value, ded. and mileage), AH wants $1480.95 for what I pay $575 with AMI. AH wanted over $900 for the Cobra alone. Maybe that's why all the Cobra guys have AMI.

If they see your avatar you'll likely be dropped like a rock.

True, however, like someone posted above they only charge liability on the first car and not the others since you can only drive one at a time. AH charges it on every car you insure with them. I got a quote on just my 60 and it was very close to what you are paying but when I added my 65, it doubled and when I added my Cobra, it went crazy.

Not the case, our underwriter has more flexibility than other carriers. Give me a call, I think something either was not explained correctly or it was not heard correctly....

Thanks!

We need to make sure we were comparing apples to apples. If we have the same underwrtier we should be identical. There is no fluctuation from agent to agent. That would be illegal...Major car guy here too! I have a Corvette tattoo! LOL!

While unlimited Mileage is appealing to some, most feel it is not worth it. Have you checked our rates recently? If not, give me a call up and I will make sure the quote is comparable to what you have now, and we can see how we really compare. BTW: Pleasure use driving is encourages with us!

I would rather you not have to take advantage of it either, but if you do, you will be pleased with the service!

'unlimited mileage' might have been the wrong choice of words... I'm more concerned with policies that restrict driving to car events or to maintenance shops and little else. I may jump in my C1 and wind up anywhere at most anytime... I've put 6,000 miles on my car in 3 years...

Never heard of a policy with those kind of limitations. I can use mine for anything I want except as a business vehicle or vehicle for hire.

I had one JUST like this on my first '66 Mustang when I lived in Southern Maryland...it was cheap insurance but I hated it....can't remember the insurer without digging through the file cabinets.

Maybe most companies dropped it...it was too easy to have a mechanic buddy that was willing to say that you called and were headed in for a repair (no matter where you REALLY were) just in case of an accident.

But I NEVER did that, not me, no way, ever..................
