Default Milano Maroon

I am doing up a '66 that was originally M Maroon but none of the original color can be found on this car. I've gone to several shows and no Maroon vettes have showed up.

Question: Is '66 Milano Maroon a metalic color?
Thanks.

No. I don't think any metallics showed up until 1967.

When BarryK repainted his 65 Milano Maroon, I believe he found a good paint formula to match his needs.

You may wish to contact Barry via his web site to see if he'll share the details.

Many milano cars have been repainted red or blue. Yes milano maroon is metallic and the original formular used a very fine metallic flake.

Today's paints use a larger flake or a pearl.

My 66 survivor was just repainted milano maroon after the original GM paint was removed.

My original paint was too far gone with lacquer checking and fade.

Love the color

If I remember correctly the '65 Milano Maroon was a solid color ( no metallac ).

As you can see my re-painted '66 has some metallac in the paint which I believe is correct.

The color does change from sun to shade and inside fluorescent lights to natural lighting.

Looks darker here.

'67 Marlboro Maroon seems to have more metallac in it and is a shade lighter.

Now this is all based on cars I've seen over the years and most of them probably have been re=paints. Still a beautiful color!

The true name of the colour is Milano Maroon Metallic so you need to get the metal in there

Have you been here?

I am sure you have, but it can't hurt

I'll 2nd the love affair with Milano Maroon. Mine was repainted base coat/clear coat 11 years ago using Sickens (sp?) formula for the '65 shade.

Here's a pic in garage lighting and again outside. There's metallic in that paint for sure.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but to those that PM'd about the paint I've responded. It's the 1965 color in PPG Acrylic Lacquer.

I think the 66 color was a little different maybe? The pics shared of the MM cars sure look nice, a real classy color. Maybe I should paint my 65 MM since I have a gallon of the color already!

Texas, I appreciate your input and if I was going to paint the car myself I'd go lacquer because that is all I used in the past. Recently I have studied the urethanes and plan on taking the certification course. Possibly sneak my own car into the booth for the class..... now that sounds dangerous!

1sweet, seeing your photos does support my decision to keep the car the factory color....except.... my interior was black also.... now it is saddle. I had to give wifey some input to the hobby!

And YES, I will specify "METALIC"
