Default 67 Accelerator Rod Threads

I have to extend the threaded portion of the accelerator rod (Don't ask why.) That's the rod between the carb and is threaded on the other end to the swivel. Well, I don't seem to have a die that matches the threads. I'm measuring the threads and I get 36 tpi. Well, I don't have a die with 36 tpi. Am I nuts? Is that a standard 36 tpi thread or is this some kind of special deal?

Thanks, Ox in beautiful Lovettsville, VA.

Ox, can't understand why the rod has to be so short. guess you're not running a stock config.
Why not cut off the end that goes into the carb, reform that part, put a hole in and that should shorten it enough. Bill.

That's a special pitch (tpi) thread on those rods. 36 tpi sounds about right but I can't remember.

Cut your existing rod, thread the cut ends in 1/4 X 20 and use one of those little threaded connector thingys (the name escapes me) to lengthen your rod and also add adjustability.

Default Accelerator Die

I ran into the same problem a couple years back when I was making a new accelerator rod for my 65. I went to a local Production Tool supply store in Novi Mi and they had one for under $20.

There are different rods for different setups in '67 ie Smallblock, 390, 400, are you sure you have the right one?

Yep, I've got the right rod for a '67 SB. I'm running a Q-jet and the throttle arm on that carb is a little different than the stock Holley and requires a shorter rod.

After reading the posts and pondering this a bit, I'll shorten it by either by hacking out a chunk and welding it back together or just chopping off the bent carb end and redoing that end.

Thanks.

It'd be really easy to just put a bend in the rod to take out some length.

Must be special. 1/4 extra fine thread is 32 per inch. I've run across extra fine threads restoring antique carburetors.
I checked a new PG kickdown rod I just bought and it is 36tpi.

The throttle rod thread and kickdown rod thread are the same thread pitch.

What reason would the factory have for making it 36 threads per inch, finer adjustment I suppose.

It's a mystery to me. I don't think that small amount of finer adjustment is necessary. Maybe the guy that designed it did.
