Best looking 19" rims

I can tell you what most of the answers on this forum will be... Don't do it. With that being said I'm a fan of the bigger rims, I had 17"s on my car before it was cool. If you go much larger than 18" though the tire sidewall gets so small that it really looks weird. The car sits so high that it looks 4x4ish. Not saying that it can't be done. I'm just not sure if you will like the result when you get done. Maybe 19"s in the back and 18"s in the front but the car would need to set low so the wheels don't make it look like a wagon. JMO

I have to agree you won't get too much positive feedback on 19s. I have no idea what your budget is but if it's really big check out Evod Wheels. They will do one offs but they are not cheap about 6K or so. Take a look at these knock off look a likes. http://evodwheels.com/wp-content/upl...od-turbine.jpg
Now if you don't want to spend anywhere near that amount of money you may want to reconsider and look at 18s. There are many more "retro" type choises and the prices are more reasonable. Don't forget you can powder coat and brush centers to give even a modern billet wheel an "old school" look.

No, not quite. Thanks for the thought, though.
Would be great to hear what folks thought were the best looking rims on a mid-year. If it happens to intersect with what I need, all the better.
Have a * great * evening!

Just read article in C/D on a new VW Golf saying Handling and 0-60 times suffer over 18" Dia. Test was 15" to 19" Extra unsprung weight killed any other spec including gas mileage. Listen to Hitch hes right.

I originally had Cragar old school 15" wheels and switched to the new style Cragar S/S 610 17" wheels with 225/50 tires. At first I didn't like them because of too much gap between the outside tire to fender space. I lowered the rear 1" and the front 1 1/2" and now they look good. Not sure if 19" wheels will look out of place. My personal opinion is 17" maximum.

I looked at 19" wheels for my '63SWC and you really need to check out what tires are available and then the side wall height. If you don't you may find that you will end up with rubber bands for tires and the look you thought you were going to get isnt there.
Additionally, you need to look at the tires you plan to run on the front of the car. IF the sidewall heights of the front are much taller than the sidewall height of the rear, you may find a situation that throws off the look. I saw a car a couple of years ago where the owner had put larger wheel diameter on the rear and when he put the tires on he ended up with say 1.5" of side wall. If the front tire ends up with 2.5" to 3" of side wall the mismatch of 1 to 1.5 or even 2" of sidewall will give you a look that to me doesn't look right.
Now I dont think it bothered that person, but it just didnt look right to me....to each their own.
By the way, if you want to get Viper tires for the rear of your car, then you need to get 19" wheels, and again it just didnt look right when you look at the sidewall.
I ended up with 18" wheels front and rear on my 63swc

19" is a big wheel, and VERY little sidewall. This is fine if you have a wild hotrod, but if you are trying to retain stock looks with minor updating, it's going to be a challenge. I wanted something that would retain an original look, but with a little more meat, and ended up with only going to 16", wishing I would have gone to 17, and now thinking maybe 18". Firstgear, yours is looking good. I am lowered about an inch at all corners. This pic was with Dick Guldstrand behind the wheel of my car recently.

Hmm.... Lots to think about. Really like the turbine rims from Evod.
Also, checked out http://www.recoveryroomrodinteriors.com/main.html. The C1's they show have 19 and 20" rims.
Looking at Firstgear's front, I can imagine the look with a bigger diameter rim (I think) being a bit out of place.... Bigger rears, especially on a lower body, looks cool.
Kinda hard to visualize these things without looking at pictures (which was the reason for the thread).....

The Billet Turbine that we build clears all the modern suspension and brake upgrades without a problem. We can also custom design anything you want in a wheel to fit your application. www.evodwheels.com
This is a picture of one customers car with 18s front and 19s rear.
I agree with many that anything bigger then 17 starts looking big and modern but that is what you have to do to clear big brakes and suspension.
My personal 63 Vette has 20 rear and 18 front because of tire availability and brakes but it does start to look like a cartoon at some point.
