What is the differance in the GMT number on a pitman arm with power steering? I see several differant ones with differant numbers for C2s. Thanks, Joe
Two different pitman arms were used on midyears. The pitman arm used on standard (non-power) steering cars came as part of the linkage assembly (relay rod, tie rods, idler arm, etc.). The pitman arm on power steering cars was installed on the control valve at St. Louis as part of the off-line power steering unit subassembly before the system was installed on the chassis; it's configured differently than the non-power pitman arm.
I have seen pitman arms with 3741383A and 3741383B. Under that number is GMT154 some have GMT164, GMT165. Curious as to the differance in the numbers. Thanks, Joe

that I can`t tell you...an opinion is that it might be a foundry mark.

Those are identifiers for the forging dies used to produce the pitman arm (similar to the pattern numbers used to identify castings). The 3741383 is the GM forging number, and the GMT154, etc. is the forging die set identifier at the Tonawanda Forge Plant (where the pitman arms were made).
