This page will give you all you need to know to decode your engine numbers (bottom 1/2 of page):
http://www.corvette-world.com/corvet..._1953_1967.php

When you are done with that page click on the Corvette Specifications tab at the top of the page and you will see info on engine casting number year-by-year...on the next page.

Wow! 1 day between block casting and engine assembly! Hardly seems long enough for the block to even cool!

I have one of my heads only 1 day ahead of my engine build date.

JohnZ will tell you that they used to ship 40,000+ castings from the foundry between Flint and Saginaw daily back in the '60s....so although a one day separation is unusual it clearly could have happened (and obviously did)...

Thank you Frankie,
Looks like my engine was built Oct 13, 1959 and assy. Oct 14 , 1959.
Heads built Oct 12 and Sep 30 1959
Carter Carb built Oct 1959.

Is this normal for the parts to be so close in build date ? Only one head was outside of Oct.

I assume the vin on the engine pad was later than Oct 1959 since mine has no vin ?

What month was the first 1960 built ?

My car was a theft recovery within the first year it was bought new and therefore it has no serial number other than the re-vin in the door jam.
So I cant get any info from the vin. I've never tried to get the vin from the top of the frame rail.
I just pull the engine for rebuild is why I'm now looking at the numbers.
STD bore by the way with 113,000 miles.
Four owner car with one repaint and new top 18 or so years ago.
Shame the original vin is gone !

If you read my prior post the close dates are not usual but did occur. I believe the VIN stamping on the engine pad starting on late '60s cars...others here may know the VIN range when they started doing that...

The frame VIN should be on top of the frame rail just about where you left hip pocket would be sitting in the driver's seat...sometimes you can read it even with the body on the car with a strong flashlight and mirror depending how much the car is shimmed..
