Default Engine code HP

I'm in the process of searching for a 3892657 block/engine for my 1967 Corvette (born around March 19th, 1967, I think). (#113901). The NCRS guide guide to Engine Codes, states under "applicable equipment". The "HP" has 1x4BC, Hi-Lift Cam, A/C, P/S & 4 speed.

My car is a 4 speed, has A/C, will need the Hi-Lift Cam, (anybody know the numbers for the cam?) BUT my car does not have power steering. Will the HP be correct for my car?

No.....you want the HT code for L-79 engine, 4 speed and air conditioning.

They (HT) are also MUCH easier to find than HP code.

Don't have the part number handy for the cam, but it is in the archives. Has been discussed MANY times. Crane used to make the reproduction cam. They may have started again. If not, I think Federal-Mogul makes a repro under one of their brands. Again, info in the archives. GM quite making/selling the cams years ago.

Thanks Larry,
Just one question about using the HT code. Under "applicable equipment", the NCRS book does not mention the HT as being a canidate for A/C. Only the HP and the KH are shown with A/C. The only additon with the KH is the K19 option, which was the Air Injection Reactor.

Jimilime:

Trust me!

I have a factory air 327/350 with HT engine code. Bloomington Gold and 26,000 miles. I have also discussed this issue multiple times with others on both this forum and NCRS Discussion Board. There are many other folks with similar cars.

Search the archives. You can search under my name if you wish. Also log in as a visitor and search the NCRS Technical Board.

Even JohnZ (forum Corvette expert) has confirmed this is correct.....and John was the engineer in St Louis that built the cars during this time period. He was rececently inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame.

I agree with Powershift. I found this thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...gine-code.html

I think the power steering cars added a pulley for the power steering, and if this was done at engine assembly, it would probably get a different suffix code (HP) I have a HP coded L79 in the garage and it has a smaller pulley for the power steering bolted to the two row pulley on the front of the crank.
