I've got a set of off-set trailing being shipped to me, would like to order rims and tires. What I'd like to know is: At the point where the bulge of the tyre is nearest to the TA, how much more clearance will the off-set TA give me?
The basic answer is....it depends. It depends on the wheel diameter you're going to be using; the larger the wheel, the farther out from the hub is the widest point.
Bud,
Here's a couple pics. The shot directly from the bottom shows the tire clears the TA by 2.5"(first pic). It's a bit less to the frame at the top of the tire, call it 2"(second pic).
The wheels are 17x9 with 5" BS. Looks like you could go to 6 or a little more BS with no problems. Tyre size is 255/45/17. Don't forget that I have some very small flares.
You are probably stuck with either 9" wide rims with 6" bs or 8" with 5" bs depending on the tire diameter If you're not cutting the fenders like I did. My tires are 26" dia.
I was hopeing for a comparison between off-set and original TAs. But the pic is worth a thousand words. Thanks. I've got a good friend who is sending me a tool that simulates any tire combo you could wish for. I'm determined to work this issue out before the next race season starts!
Hey Claysmoker,
Has your car ever been on the road? Where's the dirt/surface rust? You could even eat your dinner off the INSIDE of your frame! How do you do that?

Bud.
Bud,
It should be on the road within a month or so, but after a frame off and such, it is pretty clean. I'll hate when it gets dirty, but you'll not get the smile off my face as easily as the dirt comes off the car.

Then you need another picture that shows how the spring clears the tire/wheel.
Offset trailing arms do no good if the spring still hits the tires. They do make shorter springs though and a taller wheel may let the stock spring "tuck in" to the void space.

Ya 17 inch rims negate the spring interferance issues. I would still use a shorter spring. I don;t like the spring inside the wheel.
