How much paint is too much ? Back in '86 my '62 was stripped to the glass and painted with acrylic enamel which lasted pretty well for 20 years before deteriorating (too much sun and acid rain, car lives outside)
Recently I painted it with urethane primer and Shopline single stage urethane and am not happy with the results. My question is: can I paint it one more time, with better paint, without danger if all I do is rough up the urethane or MUST it be stripped again. Thanks, Bob
re strip the car , any troubles now will come right through the new paint job , 20 years as well between modern finish materials, a fresh start is the way to go good luck and find the best finisher and spare no $$ get the car indoors ASAP sikens base coat clear coat worked well for a few we did years back
I have a litany of things that are not to my satisfaction. Among them are some orange peal, a few fish eyes, shadows, light spots, dull spots. Don't get me wrong it's not a disaster as some of the obove items are not easily seen but I know they are there. This is a 10, you know, looks ok at 10 feet and 10 miles an hour but not the kind of paint to display at a cruise.
My first instinct was to drive it for this summer, block sand the gloss off, coat it with high-build primer and shoot it again with something better that the Shopline urethane I used last month.
There is nothing inherently bad with the surface :ie bubbling, pealing etc but I'm sure at some point the paint could crack just from having too many layers.
I have not cut and buffed yet, perhaps it is salvagable. Really looking for alternatives at this point. Thanks, Bob
