Question on correct engine date code range

Default Question on correct engine date code range
What kind of time frame/range is considered correct for date codes on blocks & engine components to the build date of the car ?

I could be wrong, but I thought it was 'acceptable' to be any where up to 6 months prior to the estimated 'birth date' of the vehicle....

That's correct, but 2-6 weeks prior is more "typical"; 6-month date spans invite further scrutiny of other items on the judging field.
