Mill Valley is probably the greenest city in the greenest state in the country. The local Whole Foods (mostly organic type stuff) now provides preferred parking to Low Emitting and Fuel Efficient Vehicles.
I interpret the sign as imposing a Year of Manufacture test.
Your act of defiance probably drove dozens of greenies to park their Priuses and get on their bicycles. Some probably went blind when they saw the dual exhausts.
he he..i LOVE it....the other day, i was fueling up the 66 and a young mother with 2 kids in tow with what i call an suv stroller stopped to ask me what mileage i achieved with such an old pre emission car....i told her all i knew was i have to fill it up at least 3 times every summer.....

I saw signs lilke that at a local store just a few weeks ago. Next time I go back I'm parking my Tahoe in one of those spots. This issue annoys me because efficiency is not soley based on mpg. It is also determined by how many miles per year you drive and what the use of your vehicle is. I'd have a hard time fitting my family of five in a smartcar.
I guess you were making a personal/political statement but unfortunately it will reinforce what I hear all the time about "vette guys".
Not really. 8am on a Sunday morning, so few people were around, and the parking lot was basically empty. And very few people can recognize the early Corvettes anyway.

Did CA pass a law that allows parking lots to prioritize parking between low emission and fuel efficient vehicles? What are the standards for determining if a car qualifies?
And if there is no law, I wonder whether a commercial establishment can discriminate in the parking lot based on the nature of your car. What if the local store put up a sign that said "MBZs and BMWs Only"? How long do you think that would last? And what the heck is a "fuel efficient" car anyway?
If the CA legislature passed a law allowing preferential parking for low emission and fuel efficient vehicles, so be it. But I disfavor any type of ad hoc discrimination by commercial enterprises.

Over the Memorial Day weekend, a local club sponsors an all-Corvette show in Lakeport, CA. The show is on Sunday, and on Saturday many of the cars participate in the town's Memorial Day parade. The custom is for the Corvettes to throw out candy for the kids. I'm told that the kids look forward to it--it's like a second Halloween. But, while we were staging our cars before the parade, a mother with two children came up to us and asked how many Corvettes would be in the parade. We proudly responded "about a 100." Then, just before stalking off, she commented that we only produce pollution and noise and should have our own parade. I assume she did not take her family to the auto races that were held at the local fairgrounds in the evening.

I'm not sure what you hear all the time about Vette guys, but my experience has been very different. With one exception (see my prior post), I have not heard anything negative since acquiring my first Corvette last Fall. During this time, my wife and I have shown the car at about a half dozen shows and participated in two parades, all attended by many people who were not Corvette owners and often not even car enthusiasts. We have also driven the car all over Northern California. Lots of folks commented, all positively or even enthusiastically. Many had their pictures taken with the car. Plus, if I had a dime for every honk or thumbs-up I get on the road, the car would have paid for itself.
What I don't understand is why they would have the cars that use the least gas and produce the least emissions drive the least distance. The gas guzzlers should park at the front door so they won't use as much gas and pump less emissions rather than cruising the lot looking for a spot. What am I missing?
It's all about taking away personal freedom and choice. Instead of getting to deciding what is in my best interest, more and more it is special interest groups, politicians, or unelected bureaucrats trying to tell me how to live my life.

Absolutely.....and I guess the owner of the property was exercising his personal freedom, and choice. I think the signs are more of a tongue and cheek statement, than a law. I don't believe the OP mentioned anything about his car being towed.
I am with you on this one. I try my best not to frequent stores that have parking spots like this. We have a local hardware store chain that feels it must reward their "employee of the month" with preferential parking in front of the store. It would appear to me managment would be more interested in getting paying customers in and out of their store as soon as possible. There are an infinite amount of other rewards available for their "employee of the month".
P.S. The car looks great! Any update on Noland's library?
