Wrong gas door
I have a mostly original 66 390/427 convertible. I have owned the car for 15 years now. I am the third owner. When I bought the car it had a 65 gas door. The car has a Jan 66 build date. Is it possible the car was delivered this way?

The production of the 1966 model year started around sept 1. 1965. Your car is almost halfway into the production year and I guess a 65 gas door was not on it from the factory.

Not likely. Usually you find the opposite. '66 gas door on a '63-'65. The '66 gas door replaced the previous mid-years in service, very early in the model cycle.
