Default `58 rear spring

Just put my body back on my restored chassic.
While fitting my doors, hood, trunk, and bumpers
I realized the right rear is alot stiffer and 1.5 in.
higher than the left side. I removed the springs,
compared them (measured the same, looked the
same) couldn`t find anything wrong. So I decided
to swap the springs out and see if it was the spring
that was the problem. After swapping springs the
right side is still stiffer and 1.5 in. higher.
Anyone have any idea of what could create this situation?

Are you torquing the spring mount and shackle bolts, with the suspension hanging, or with the full weight of the car on the springs?

If the former, loosen the mounting locations with the car on the ground, and then retighten once more weight is on the car.

Jeff, I left all bolts and nuts loose.
Let the car down on the tires.
I just have the body, doors, hood ,trunk
and deck lid. I`am fitting everything before
doing the final bodywork and paint.
Thanks Tony

chek your left front coil, lift up and see if the right rear moves down. Good luck.

Collapsed front coil can look like a rear spring problem.

Thanks Doug, Today I put jack stands under
the frame rails, front and rear. Every thing measured
good. I have new coil springs in the front. I don`t
have the motor, trans or interior & glass etc. installed
so there is not much weight on the springs.
I was thinking of taking the front shocks out and
use a piece of all thread to load the springs, then
see how it looks. What do you think?
Thanks Tony

Jack the car up on the center 3rd member mount and see how the rear of the car sits. Yes, I know some of those on this forum say it will crack in half doing this, BS. If you jack it up at the tie rod connections, maybe.

Jacked it up as you suggested. It seems the problem
is in the front end. Will check it out.
Thanks Tony

Did you use other parts ? the rear front spring brackets are different from 53 to 56 then 57 up. and if mixed up will do the same. Or is both the rear springs under the rear cross member

You mentioned your restoring the Corvette. I was asking if you used other parts . The rear end springs toward the front have brackets as shown in pic's. Top is 57 up ,bottom 53 to 56 and are different in design , if you use the wrong brackets on the wrong year Corvette it will set high or low.If you use a 57 up on the left rear and a 55 on the right the Corvette will sit different at the rear.So I was asking if both of your's are correct . And if you run the rear end of the springs under the rear cross member it will set high to high ( seen this done by people making this mistake. )
