I'm needing an air breather for my car. Does GM require the MAF to be a certain distance from the throttle body.
Thanks for the help
We can't help you if we don't know what year car and engine you're asking about; your post doesn't say, and there's zero information in your profile. Unless you're doing a resto-mod, no C1 or C2 had a mass airflow sensor.
John,
Building a 67 resto-mod with C6 suspension front and rear with a LS3 480, 5 speed, ZO6 wheel and tires. Seems I read somewhere that GM required the MAF to be a certain distance from the throttle body. If so, this will factor into what type of tube I'll need.
I have an ls3 in my 61 vette with a rectangular air filter mounted to the front of the throttle body, so the MAF is only about three inches away and it works fine. I have seen a lot of cars at car shows the same way. But the instructions that came with my engine and harness call for it to be mounted at least 10 inches from the throttle body. Bob
The location of the MAF on the LS376 is CRITICAL. I've done three of them, and they will not run right if you don't get it correct. I've had to add a "honeycomb" from a 2000 caddy in front of the maf to get the fuel trims to read right. Call me if you like, and I'll give you my two cents worth.
