About to purchase good used tailight assemblies for 1964 roadster. All red without backup light option.
How can I verify proper inboard/outboard units ? Here's all the #'s I'm told.
Your assembly manual should show the part numbers. Do you have one?
For what it's worth, my 65 assembly manual shows the smaller 2 numbers being the outside lights, the larger 2 numbers the inner. HOWEVER I HAVE DIFFERENT numbers than you've posted.
My part numbers for the 65 are:
910417 Outboard Left
910418 Outboard Right
910419 Inboard Left
910420 Inboard Right
My 62 assembly manual similarly shows the 2 lowest numbers being the outboard, and the 2 highest being the inboard, with odd numbers being on the left.

Thanks Jeff,
No I don't have an assembly manual. Hopefully GM kept a similar pattern throughout the 60's.
Maybe others can verify higher numbers= inboard
lower numbers=outboard odd numbers left
Thanks,Sparky
This is to easy. Take the taillight look at the lower back side under the flange and you will see RH inner, RH outer, etc
Good Luck
You've done it !!!
I assumed that all of the part numbers and ID's labeled were on the tailight housing only. Readily visible. Now on closer inspection, thanks to you, I see the inboard/outboard and L/R on the inside of the outer lip !! Now I can proceed.
Thanks for your reply,
Sparky
Yeah Don, and I just hope mine have the right date codes, too.
Actually, my brother-in-law, Don Smith, read from a Corvette book that he has and it showed the 6 tail light as a design that GM considered for the Midyear Vettes; even showed an image in his book. I will try to steal the book from him next week.
Not to hyjack the thread, but in the image above, it does look like the lower exhaust valance is missing. There goes another $500.

Yeah, someone pointed out that the valence was missing but I thought you had it? I'm not surprised that they didn't go with the third light since that was a sign of the best model for chevies back then ( Impala 3 tail lights, BelAir and Biscayne 2).
