Default Ignition Shielding

Working on a 66 small block.
I have not put it on the car because i do not have it.
Looking to buy the re-pop stuff.
Who stocks the better stuff?
Trying to get it looking a little better.

Anyone also have a pic of the sides installed to see how much of the wires are covered before the top is installed?

Jack, if nobody comes through with a photo by later this evening, I'll pull the shielding off my 65 and take a photo for you.

If you NEED the photo sooner than that, I can do it sooner, but otherwise I was going to wait until I was outside working on another project later today.

Here you go.

You can see the wires are about 3.5" above the top of the passenger ignition shielding. This photo was taken right after removing the distributor shielding, so the wires are approximately where they are when normally covered by the shielding.

Here you see the top of the passenger shielding is about 1" above the wire loom bracket.

The top of the driver shielding is about even with the wire loom bracket.

And now a broader picture.

That's what is was looking for, the clearance around the wires.
One more question how are the L/R sheilds attached other than the upper wing nut?
I have all brackets installed

Jack,
Using my 65 as my reference :

The Driver's shield has mounting hole in the bottom, rear side such that you get to sneak your hand between the firewall and the shielding in order to install the bolt. The bolt attaches to the lower wire loom bracket.

The Passenger's shield has a little tail formed into the bottom of it. This tail has a hole in it, to which you attached a "J" nut. The mounting bolt goes through the horizontal shield that covers the #6 and #8 spark plugs, and then into the "J" nut that is on that tail.

But for what it's worth - my 65 has only the top mounting bolts on the L/R vertical shields, and no horizontal shields at all. I have no issues with the vertical shields staying in place.

Jeff

You are welcome. Hopefully someone will answer your original question regarding the supplier of a quality top shield.

My 65 is well-worn under the hood, so I just found perfectly usable original L/R shields off of e-bay. They aren't show quality, but they do like right at home with my unrestored underhood area.

I dunno.

I use a cheapie 6 year old Nikon 2.2 Megapixel digital camera. Most photos I take of my cars like those above, are taken with the Macro setting turned on.
