Will be starting interior restoration on my mostly matching 64 convertible, looking for advice or experience regarding sound system. Prefer system that can be installed with no permanent modifications (cutting holes in doors, dash etc). Kick panel speakers OK. any suggestions? Thanks, Joe.

Build or buy a speaker box for the back or take an extra floor board for the storge behind the seat and mount speakers in that.

Some people complain the kick panel speakers interfere with your left leg while operating the clutch.

I have never had any problem in 6-8 years, but I don't ware combat boots.
Get one of the converted radios that fit the dash and put two 6x9 speakers in a home made jack well cover (carpet it too match, make it a little bit bigger so you can tilt it forward) and you should be good for some tunes. I would not recommend putting four speakers in without the use of a seperate amp. Dennis

Greg at S&M is the way to go if you want good sound and keep the original look. I had them redo my non-working original and I did my own speaker setup in the rear and duals in the center front

I did a write-up ---> http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1843735

I just replaced the original radio in my '67 with one of the reproductions from Antique Automobile Radios and one of the two-channel 6X9 speakers from Ecklers (#38151). While there is not a lot of stereo separation (of course), the radio works well and sounds great. There was NO modification required at all. I added connectors to the ends of the wires from the radio so it plugged into the stock power cable. The radio has an iPod input so you can use any external audio device you like.

Incidentally, if you go this way, there is NO ground on the radio. I called AAR and talked to them and found out that they thought the bottom mounting tab was grounded but (at least in a '67) it isn't and unless you run a ground wire from the radio to a good ground, you will be depending on the ground through the antenna braid which will be "iffy" at best. The original 3-terminal power plug has a ground in it so it's easy to pick it up there.

If you want original looks and no modifications, this is the way to go.
