Default PG, Turbo Glide, Turbo Hydramatic

Any one have any thoughts why the 57 Turbo Glide was not offered in the Corvettef from 57 to 62. And why the Turbo Hydramatic was not offered in the Corvette till 68 when full size Chevrolets had it in 65. Wasnt these the performance automatic transmissions Chevrolet offered its full size passenger car buyers? Why would they leave it out of the Corvette making the old Powerglide the only transmisson of choice.

in defense of the powerglide... even tho it is only 2 speeds, it can be a tough trans; and is the trans of choice for many drag racers...

The Turboglide wouldn't fit in the C1 tunnel (and it was a warranty nightmare), and the THM wouldn't fit in the midyear tunnel; the tunnel was enlarged in '68 to accommodate the THM-400.

And: The turbo 350 didn't have the capacity past the base engine. The PG was offered all the way up to the 400 hp 427.
