I have a 1961 and want to paint it a nice red, not too dark. There seems to be many of these around. Does anyone have a nice red that they are proud of and know the PPG color?

Have a look at Torch Red available on Corvettes from 1993 thru 2004 and again in 2010. It has a little too much orange in it for some people, but when it's in the sun, it just "pops". My FRC is Torch Red and I wouldn"t want any other color.
Trying to find Candy Apple Red is like trying to find Corvette red. Everyone has a version they say is Candy Apple Red:
Candy apple red is a popular color for car companies to manufacture automobiles in because "candy apple red" colored automobiles sell quickly.
The color medium candy apple red, applied with a metallic sheen, is popular among car owners who customize their cars by painting their cars metallic candy apple red. The "Candy Apple Red" metallic finish is produced, not only for cars but for other objects such as electric guitars, by covering a metallic gold undercoat with layers of translucent lacquer tinted candy apple red. (Metallic finishes can also be produced in this way by tinting with other colors such as green, etc.)[7]

Go to NAPA and pick out the color you want. Get it in acrilic
enamel with a slow hardener for this time of year. Don't spray on a high
humidity day if you are doing it at home. Wait 2 weeks before you buff
it out. Will shine like it has a clear coat. Acrilic enamel is my favorite
to paint when doing it myself.
Also get a good gravity feed gun.
